Choosing a Location for your Portrait SessionChoosing a Location for your Portrait Session

There are lots of wonderful options in and around Spring Hill and Franklin for your family portrait session. To help you decide, I’ve described several of them here for you, along with pictures and notes about each location.

Please keep in mind that the locations vary by season and also that every photo session is unique.  I do not do a lot of posing and prefer to let a session flow naturally and to capture genuine moments, so please don't expect to recreate the photos exactly, as your family is uniquely beautiful.

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary Walking Trail

1000 Secluded Ln, Spring Hill, TN 37174

This location is one of my favorites because it has lots of variety and lovely light (my most important criteria).  The walking trail is beautiful and there is a secluded wooded spot.  There is also brick options, tall grass (sometimes) and a playground for candid shots of the children.  It's a great spot for every season, and even has Evergreen Trees for the Winter.

The Park at Harlinsdale Farms

239 Franklin Rd, Franklin, TN 37064

Harlinsdale Farm has lots of pretty barns and fencing.  It's great for young families with lots of room for little ones to run around.  There is also a lake, and the sun sets beautifully behind a field that usually has tall grass. One of my favorite spots.

Preservation Park

1600 Thompson's Station Rd W, Thompson's Station, TN 37179

Lovely location with lots of land, trees, etc. Beautiful in the fall. The only issue with this location is that you have to walk a fair amount to get to the pretty spots.  Not too far, but might be an issue if anyone in your group has any mobility issues. Lots of room to run and play and explore.  No bathroom and no playground.

Homestead Manor

4683 Columbia Pike, Thompson's Station, TN 37179

Gorgeous location but can only take photographs there if there are no events going on at the manor.

Downtown Franklin

W Main St, Franklin, TN 37064

Lots of different urban backdrops - different bricks and colored buildings.  Lovely choice but can be very crowded.  I do not recommend this for young children because of the traffic and large amounts of people.  I prefer young children to be in an open space where they can run free.

Downtown Columbia

Public Square, Columbia, TN 38401

Downtown Columbia has a similar feel to Downtown Franklin with brick backdrops and lots of pretty architecture but without as many people  Not recommended for very young children because of the traffic.

The Factory at Franklin

230 Franklin Rd, Franklin, TN 37064

This is a great option with beautiful locations inside and outside, but they do charge a $50 fee for a photography permit that you would be responsible for in addition to your session fee. This is a good option if it's very hot or very cold so that we can alternate between inside and outside.

Pinkerton Park

405 Murfreesboro Rd, Franklin, TN 37064

Lovely park location with playground for younger children and a beautiful bridge.

Winstead Hill Park

4023 Columbia Ave, Franklin, TN 37064

Lovely outdoor spot with pretty trees and a beautiful covered walkway.

UAW Walking Trail

125 Stephen P Yokich Pkwy, Spring Hill, TN 37174

This is a pretty walking trail with a giant hill that's great for silhouettes.  There are lots of pretty trees along with open fields.

Apen Grove Park

3200 Aspen Grove Dr., Franklin, TN 37067

This park has a really pretty walking trail, including a lovely bridge, and also a playground.

Henry Horton State Park

4209 Nashville Hwy, Chapel Hill, TN 37034

Beautiful outdoor location with lots of different spots for pictures.  I have also shot on the side of the park where there are camp grounds but the client did rent a campsite in order to gain permission to shoot there.

Thompson Station Park

1513 Thompson's Station Rd W, Thompson's Station, TN 37179

Thompson Station Park has lovely trees and paths, along with more open areas.  The little amphitheater area gives a different type of backdrop than the rest of the park. There is a nice fence that also makes a lovely spot.  Great for families with small kids because then we can get candid playground shots at the end of the session. Thompson Station Park is one of my favorite Fall Portrait spots because it has beautiful color but it's also nice in the Spring (not so great for Winter).
