When Patty booked her session, she already knew that she wanted the pictures to be taken on her friends farm, and the location immediately made me think of the setting of one of my favorite children's books, "The Big Red Barn,", by Margaret Wise Brown.  I loved reading that to my kids when they were younger and at one point , I had all the words memorized.

We were afraid there was going to be rain on the day of the session, but Patty decided that she wanted to go ahead with the session rain or shine.  Though clients usually decide to reschedule in the case of rain, shooting is definitely an option assuming it's just showers and not unsafe conditions.  I prepared by bringing big clear umbrellas, and borrowed some rain boots for little Aiden from a friend of mine, but it turns out we didn't need them. It ended up being perfect conditions for a photo session - nice overcast skies provide pretty diffused light, and I love a breeze that adds movement to hair.

Little Aiden is SO adorable! He melted my heart with his little pleas of "Let's go, Daddy!" when he wanted to go see the horsey. I suggested he take flowers to mommy and after he did so, he brought me some.  💖  We had a great time exploring, and discovered that Aiden loves swinging in the air, and flying with Daddy.  I always love a good flying kid picture, but these of Aiden with the barn behind him might be one of my favorite flying pictures so far. We even pretended to be cows...anything for the shot.

I know every time I have a session with a two year old, that the mom probably thinks I am insane (or lying) when I say two year olds are my favorite, but they seriously are.  I know they are wild, unpredictable, stubborn, joyful, angry and shy all at once or within a matter of 30 seconds but that's exactly why I love them so.  I've never met an in-authentic two year old and I find that very inspiring and beautiful. So if I need to pretend to be a cow in order to make friends, that's cool.

Aiden is expecting a baby sister due next month, and he adorably refers to her as "Baby Mister" because he can't quite pronounce "sister."  He's about the age that my oldest was when my baby was born, and I am so excited for him to meet his new best friend.
