Mikal & Shannon's Couples Session - Strolling in the Rain

October 09, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

“I love the rain. I love how it softens the outlines of things. The world becomes softly blurred, and I feel like I melt right into it.”
― Hagumi Hanamoto

This time last year, Mikal was on a six month deployment in the military.  This year, Shannon saw my work on Instagram and decided that she wanted to have a couples portrait session for the two of them to celebrate their time together. The couple has been married for about a year, but have been sweethearts since middle school.  <3  They are such a sweet couple and I really enjoyed getting to know them during our session.

I was afraid that I was going to have to reschedule three different portrait sessions for this weekend, and I am really relieved that I did not have to reschedule any of them.  I was so excited when Shannon emailed me to say that they were game to continue with the session, rain or shine.  When poor weather happens on a scheduled session day, I always leave it up to my clients as to what they want to do.  Most choose to reschedule, which is perfectly acceptable, but shooting in the rain is a great option to consider if it works for you!  I think it was particularly perfect for a couples session.  I have a clear umbrella that works great and lets the light still fall on the subjects. Downtown Franklin was the perfect spot for a romantic stroll through the rain.  The drizzles came and went and we were still able to get plenty of shots without the umbrella.

What about you? Would you ever consider a portrait session in the rain?
