Timing your Family Portrait Session - Franklin TN Family PhotographerWhat a gorgeous evening for an outdoor family photo session! I really enjoyed the beautiful country drive to the Leipers Fork area.
Annemarie had originally inquired about wanting to schedule a photo session around 10 in the morning. She had a location in mind for the session already at the beautiful home of one of their Home Theater Experts clients. One of the most important things about planning your outdoor photo session (even more important than the location) is the lighting. The bright harsh light of mid day is not flattering for portraits, so the middle of the day is not usually a great time to schedule a portrait session. There are a few exceptions to this: A cloudy day allows for nice diffused light that can be beautiful, but this is hard to plan for when you are booking a session in advance. A location with lots of shade is also usually fine for a mid-day shoot, and is a good option for clients who cannot schedule an evening session. After speaking with Annemarie, I learned that there was not much shade at the location she wanted. After talking with her about the best lighting for a session, she decided that she would like to stick with the location she wanted, but to move the time to early evening.
The best time for a photo session is definitely magic hour. From Wikipedia: "In photography, the golden hour (sometimes known as magic hour, especially in cinematography) is a period shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which daylight is redder and softer than when the Sun is higher in the sky." This is why I almost always schedule my sessions about an hour before sunset. Early morning is beautiful too, but I don't have many clients interested in being ready for pictures so early in the morning.
Taryn & Tanner absolutely killed it at this session. They were absolute super models, rocking every picture with their adorable smiles and cute giggles. I often chat with children as I'm shooting, in an attempt to get more natural expressions. At one point during this shoot, I asked Tanner who his best friend was, and he melted my heart when he responded that Taryn was...so super sweet.
I love the colors Annemarie chose for their clothing. Taryn's beautiful yellow dress looked gorgeous with Tanners blue shirt. The bright colors were gorgeous with the red rose bushes that I fell in love with. I love a colorful image and this session was so colorful.
If you are wanting to book a family photo session this year, please do not wait. September and October are almost completely full. I will only book so many sessions because of the editing time. I pride myself on quick turn around for images and do not want to book so many sessions that I can't edit them in a timely manner. So book your session today!
