Typically, if it rains on the day of a family session, I will have the clients reschedule to the next convenient date.  But for a variety of reasons, this family needed to keep their original date, despite the fact that it was raining and storming pretty hard on Saturday.  They already planned to have the session at their home, so they decided we could shoot on the large covered front porch of their home.  It was a little dark on the porch, but not too bad, and the trees beyond the porch made a beautiful backdrop for sweet Charlotte.  She also enjoyed testing out her walking feet on the porch. This sweet girl is going to be walking before you know it! 

We also got some shots inside, which was a little more difficult lighting but I do carry a flash for emergencies, though natural light is always my favorite. 

But I do believe my favorite picture from this session is of Kate and Adam holding Charlotte under the umbrella in front of their new home that they are in the process of building. What fun to be able to look back at that photo when they are living in their beautiful home years from now.  I carry a clear umbrella in my trunk because it's a nice option that lets the light through onto the subjects, and it worked great for this occasion.
