I love you, Stick Daddy | Spring Hill, Family PhotographerSo, do you want to know what happens when your wife has scheduled a family photo session and then you plan a work trip out of town for the same day? Your head gets put on a stick, that's what happens. And do you know what else? That works out for the best because often times Daddy is the most impatient and grumpy during photo sessions, and Stick Daddy is super patient and never causes any trouble. We shot these family photos in downtown Franklin. I love the location but wouldn't recommend it for large groups, small children or Saturdays. Mostly because there were too many people there and sometimes I had to stand in the street just to get far enough back for this small family of 3 1/4. I had to place my subjects in just the right spots to avoid random strangers in the background and that doesn't work well for younger children who should be free to roam while I chase them. Also, did you know people look at you funny when you lay down on your stomach to take a photo in downtown Franklin? Since this client is also my best friend, I think it's OK to point out that this session did not feel as if it went well at all. Sometimes, when I remember, I try to point out to clients before a session to please not stress if it is feeling like the children are uncooperative. First of all, I get that they are children and I promise I'm not judging their behavior. Second, if I take enough pictures, some of them are bound to turn out alright. This is proof right here. Harrison and Ada were not into it during our session. Shooting them is almost like shooting my own kids because they are so familiar with me. They kept wanting to hang on poles for photos (I don't know why), kept fighting between the two of them, and Ada kept showing her bright blue shorts that she was wearing under her pretty pink dress. Then Harrison got hurt and there was a quite long period of sadness/pouting. In fact, one of my favorite photos is of him being upset. But when they got impatient, I would just change our focus and oftentimes, give them something active to do. That usually works like a charm. I'm quite pleased with how they turned out, and think Stick Daddy looks especially dashing in these photos. I cannot wait to see the Christmas Card.
