Sweet Baby Khloe Jayde - Happlily Ever After | Spring Hill, TN Newborn Photographer

A sign hangs in the O'Nan Family home that says "Happily Ever After."  I'm not sure what that means for them personally, but this gorgeous family with two beautiful little girls does appear to be the definition of happily ever after.  Big sister Raelynn is four and a half, and such a wonderful big sister to baby Khloe Jade.  Her striking red hair and beautiful blue eyes created stunning photographs.  Baby Klohe Jade is absolutely adorable and certainly completes the happy family, who was so obviously in love with her.

When Rachel first emailed me about booking a newborn photos session, she had asked if I bring props with me.  Since I have not addressed that particular question on my blog before, I thought I might now.

The type of photography that I do is considered lifestyle newborn photography.  That is a fancy way of saying that I want to capture real life, candid moments in a more artistic way....and blend of documentary photography and more formal portraiture.  So for me, it is important that the backdrop of your babies portraits be real and true to your family.  If your baby has a nursery, I want to capture it in the photographs.  If there are blankets or toys that are important to your family, I want to include them as well.  I believe the most beautiful photographs of newborns have them posed in their mother or father's arms....not propped in a basket or hanging from a tree.

There are a few things I bring with me.

  • Plain White Onesies (because sometimes newborns get swallowed in fancy outfits and I prefer to see the baby...not the clothes.)
  • Plain white newborn size diapers with no words or cartoons on them. (Because I hate photoshopping pampers).
  • A few swaddle blankets...but ones you would typically find in a real life baby's nursery...not gauzy ones.  But again, I'd rather use something special to the family so this is only in case there is a need to swaddle the baby and the family doesn't have something neutral enough.
  • A big step ladder.  Because I'm short and the sides of cribs are tall.
  • A small Sheep Skin Rug for getting a few individual shots of the baby on a background that I don't have to worry about wrinkling...because again, editing takes enough time without wrinkles.
  • Of course I always, always carry Yummy Earth Organic Suckers...a special treat for big brothers and sisters.

So that's it...no giant bean bags, baskets or tons of blankets, wraps and hats.  I prefer it simple.  I believe the happily ever after is easier to see without all the distractions.
