Scarlett Pearl's First Birthday Session

They say the days are long, but the years are short. That is so true about parenthood and I can't believe I just sent my baby girl off to Middle School. I swear it was only yesterday that we were celebrating her first birthday.

And it also seems like yesterday that I photographed Scarlett's newborn session and here I am posting her first birthday session already. It turns out that Scarlett and I actually share a birthday, so that is fun.

When Scarlett's mom first contacted me to schedule this session, she was concerned that all the spots on my online scheduling calendar for August were late into the evening. She was afraid that Scarlett would be too tired by 7 p.m. to do well for photos. I explained to her that my calendar is based upon the best lighting for portrait sessions, and are typically scheduled an hour before sunset. In the summer time, this can be pretty late, especially for little ones. While it's important to plan for pretty light, it is also very important to make sure baby is happy and well rested. So we scheduled this session for 4:30 and made sure that we selected a location that had plenty of shade so that harsh lighting wasn't an issue. So if you are trying to schedule a session, and a need a time that is different from what is listed on my calendar, please feel free email me and discuss your needs.

This session was a bit hotter than the mild weather I had for my session the night before, but we made it work and Scarlett and her parents were good sports about the heat. Scarlett is a beautiful, serious little girl and I just adore the way her eyes thoughtfully explore the world around her. She love flying in Daddy's arms, and was particularly interested in the leaves and sticks she found on the trail. Happy Birthday Scarlett! I hope you had an amazing day.
