I cannot think of a more wonderful way to spend the 14th Anniversary of 09/11 than in celebration of a beautiful new life.  I was so blessed yesterday to be with one of my oldest and dearest friends as she welcomed her second baby boy into the world.  You may remember the Prey family from their Family photo session in April.  Their birth story took place at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. 

It was such a fun and joy filled day as we awaited baby Samuel.  The staff was so much fun to work with, including the nurse Glinda (like the good witch, she said).  We joked around and laughed a lot, which always helps with the helpless impatience that can come from waiting.  We learned that Glinda had not become a nurse until later in life, because when she was younger, she had not thought she was smart enough.  That's a shame because she is a wonderful gift to her patients.  

Samuel was born at 6:53 p.m. on September 11, 2015.  He weighed 7 lb 11 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. 

I've decided that photographing births never gets old.  It's such a beautiful, beautiful thing to witness.  I also thought about something else as I was editing these....everyone thinks I'm there to get photos of the baby.  But my favorite photos of all are usually of the mother.  There is absolutely nothing more beautiful in this whole world than seeing a mother meet her baby face to face for the very first time.  Thank you, Shelly and Nate, for letting me witness that.
